Oven & Stove Repair

Oven not heating, surface burner dead, or gas burner clicking but not lighting? I repair freestanding gas and electric ranges across all major brands in Fort Collins.

Common Problems

  • Oven will not heat or heats unevenly
  • Surface burner or radiant coil will not heat
  • Gas burner clicks but will not light, or clicks constantly
  • Gas oven igniter glows but no flame
  • Oven temperature off by 50 to 100 degrees
  • Error codes like F3, F4, or F9
  • Self-clean cycle failed and locked the door
  • Door will not close flush (sagging hinge)

My Approach

I repair freestanding gas and electric ranges across all major brands. Typical work covers bake and broil elements, surface elements and radiant coils on electric units, gas safety valves and oven igniters, surface igniters and spark modules on gas units, temperature sensors, control boards, door hinges, and self-clean latch motors. Samsung front-knob ranges have a documented knob-bump issue covered by a class-action settlement with knob-lock kits, and I can install those. I avoid running self-clean as a diagnostic step on any range past 5 years because self-clean cycles are documented across Whirlpool, GE, and Frigidaire service bulletins as a leading cause of control-board and thermal-fuse failures.

Try This First

Before you call, a few things are worth a quick try. If any of these fixes it, you save a service call. If not, give me a ring.

  1. 1

Check the outlet and both legs of the 240V breaker (electric)

A single tripped leg means half the range works. Do not replace the cord yourself if the terminal block shows scorching.

  2. 2

Confirm the gas supply valve is open and other gas appliances work

Do not move a range with a rigid gas connector.

  3. 3

Inspect the door seal and hinge alignment

A sprung hinge or torn gasket makes the oven cycle long and bake unevenly.

  4. 4

Clean surface-burner ports with a pin or toothpick (gas)

Do not drill ports larger or use a metal pick that could deform them.

  5. 5

Calibrate oven temperature within the manual's range

Most manuals permit plus or minus 35 degrees of calibration via the control panel. Do not exceed that range.

  6. 6

Power-cycle at the breaker for 60 seconds

Clears a transient control fault. Do not reset repeatedly; a failing board will fail harder.

When to Stop and Call Me

A few signals mean stop using the appliance and call a technician. If you see or smell any of these, unplug the unit and reach out.

  • Any smell of gas (leave the house, call the gas utility from outside)
  • Yellow or orange flames on gas burners (normal is blue with small yellow tips)
  • Oven igniter glows but no ignition (safety-valve issue)
  • Visible arcing or sparking from the back panel or cooktop terminals
  • Burnt-plastic or ozone smell from the control console
  • F1, F2, F3, F4, or F9 codes that return after a power cycle
  • Self-clean cycle that locked the door and will not release after cooling
  • Any gas range more than 15 years old with a failed safety valve

How Long Should This Last

Average Service Life

13 to 15 years

Gas ranges run about 15 years median, electric about 13. Induction has less long-term track record. Repair-favored: any element, any igniter, door hinges, surface switches, oven sensor. Replacement-favored: control board on a budget range past 10 years, or a cracked ceramic cooktop past 8 years where the glass cost alone approaches replacement. Wolf and Viking ranges routinely hit 20 years with parts support.

All Major Brands

I service all major brands. If I can get the parts, I can fix it. Samsung, LG, Whirlpool, GE, KitchenAid, Maytag, Bosch, and more. No brand is too obscure.

Rocky Mountain Appliance Solutions turned out to be a great choice when our washing machine decided stop working. The repair person was very friendly, knowledgeable, and quick. He diagnosed the problem, explained the solution to me, and provided a very reasonable quote. It's also nice to know that I'm dealing with a local company and not some place pretending to be local.
