Washer Repair

Washer will not spin, drain, or start? I repair top-load and front-load washers across all major brands in Fort Collins.

Common Problems

  • Standing water in the drum at the end of a cycle
  • Will not spin, or clothes come out soaking wet
  • Will not start or the lid/door will not lock
  • Loud rumbling or metallic grinding on spin
  • Leaking at the door boot or under the unit
  • Slow or no fill
  • Foul mildew smell in a front-loader
  • Shaking, walking, or vibrating across the floor
  • Error codes like F21, F9E1, LE, UE, or Sd

My Approach

I service top-load and front-load washers across all major brands. Typical work covers drain pumps, door and lid lock assemblies, drive belts and couplers, inlet valves, pressure switches, shock absorbers and suspension springs, and control boards. Tub bearing failure is a known issue on the Whirlpool Cabrio, Maytag Bravos, and Kenmore Oasis direct-drive platform and usually means a bearing and seal kit installed with a bearing press. Duet and Maxima front-loaders commonly throw F21 or F9E1 drain faults from coins and pet hair caught in the pump. If you own a Samsung top-load VRT washer built before 2016, check the CPSC recall list at cpsc.gov before calling anyone out, yours may be covered.

Try This First

Before you call, a few things are worth a quick try. If any of these fixes it, you save a service call. If not, give me a ring.

  1. 1

Clean the drain pump filter (front-loaders)

There is a small access panel at the front bottom. Place a shallow pan to catch water, unscrew the filter slowly, and pull out coins, hair ties, and lint. Every 3 to 6 months is the right interval.

  2. 2

Confirm the door or lid is fully latched

Washers will not start unless the latch is fully engaged. A worn strike plate or bent hinge can require a firmer push than usual.

  3. 3

Redistribute the load and level the machine

For walking or shaking, spread the load evenly, put a bubble level on the top, and confirm all four feet are locked.

  4. 4

    Clean the inlet screens

Turn off hot and cold supply valves, unscrew the fill hoses at the machine, and rinse the small mesh screens in the inlet ports. Hard-water scale clogs them over time.

  5. 5

    Run a tub-clean cycle monthly (front-loaders)

Use affresh or bleach. Leave the door cracked open between loads so the gasket dries. Wipe the door gasket with a towel. Use only HE detergent, and less of it.

When to Stop and Call Me

A few signals mean stop using the appliance and call a technician. If you see or smell any of these, unplug the unit and reach out.

  • Burning rubber or electrical smell during any cycle
  • Breaker trips on fill or spin
  • Water at the supply valves or behind the wall
  • Smoke or sparks from the console
  • Loud metallic grinding on spin (continuing to run destroys the outer tub)
  • Gas smell near a paired gas dryer (leave the room, call the gas utility first, then me)

How Long Should This Last

Average Service Life

10 years

Typical range is 10 to 14 years, with front-loaders trending shorter due to bearing failures. Speed Queen top-loaders regularly run 20 to 25 years. On the Whirlpool Cabrio, Maytag Bravos, and Kenmore Oasis platform, a bearing replacement past year 9 usually does not pencil out because the cost approaches a new machine.

All Major Brands

I service all major brands. If I can get the parts, I can fix it. Samsung, LG, Whirlpool, GE, KitchenAid, Maytag, Bosch, and more. No brand is too obscure.

Rocky Mountain Appliance Solutions turned out to be a great choice when our washing machine decided stop working. The repair person was very friendly, knowledgeable, and quick. He diagnosed the problem, explained the solution to me, and provided a very reasonable quote. It's also nice to know that I'm dealing with a local company and not some place pretending to be local.

I called Jake on a Monday, he was able to come Wednesday morning - took a look at my dryer, spent about 20 minutes going to get a couple parts picked up, installed them and voila! We are back in the laundry business! He was very prompt and professional. He goes over your repair costs up front too, and is able to take card payment. Great experience!
